AT the end of the week when Willow Court was the only major Tasmanian convict site NOT to gain World Heritage listing, it's worth checking the state of play in regard to Federal Election commitments made to the preservation and restoration of Willow Court:
- Labor: minus $750,000 (Promised at the 2007 election & withdrawn last year due to council inaction)
- Liberal/National: Nil
I think we need to get Willow Court on the World Heritage List its as or if not more deserving as the other convict sites that were approved.
ReplyDeleteHow do we start this process and who is the most appropriate people to do it, the Council or Committee?
I think your portrayal of Labor being minus $750,000 in regard to election commitments to Willow Court is deliberately misleading. They should not be in the minus due to the council's ineptitude but the same zero amount as the Liberal Party. To blame the Labor Party for the incompetence of the Derwent Valley Council is ridiculous. Almost as bad as blaming Valley Vision for decisions made by the Council!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Steve, and thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteI acknowledge your view on my election promises tally.
You are right about Valley Vision & that's one of the reasons I attended nearly every monthly council meeting before I was elected, asking questions and reminding about responsibilities. It's also the same reason (as a councillor) I spoke against and stopped the council from doing an improper review of Valley Vision.
Along with the mayor and general manager, I have been working with Valley Vision while it determines a new way forward since its staff resigned to take up new jobs. Good progress is being made, so stay tuned. Cheers, Damian.
