Burnett St - the way forward, part two

ON Tuesday evening last week, several councillors and the general manager conducted an informal inspection of various street beautification works at Bridgewater, New Town and Kingston. The party included Mr Mackey, Mayor Evans, Deputy Mayor Farrell, and Councillors Lathey, Graham and myself. We were particularly impressed by recent works in the area near Channel Court at Kingston - in particular the attractive planting of trees at the edge of the footpath. A photo appears below and I would be interested in any feedback on this look as a solution for the Burnett St problem.

  1. As per my previous comments on relocation of the trees, this is the perfect solution! It would also be a good idea for car parking places to be designated in Burnett, Charles, Leatham and (the name escapes me - one way street next to newsagency between High and Pioneer Ave) Streets.

  2. A very attractive alternative to pink boxes that's for sure. Will we also have designated parking spots too?

  3. Good points there Ngaire and Megan - our parking spaces need to be clearly marked with sensible spacing.

  4. I'd rather have the pink pot outside my house removed and not replaced by a tree in the footpath, but it is probably the best of a bad bunch of options. The veradah's that overhang the footpaths in Burnett St will limit their placement though, and I'd rather not lose the only sun we get by having a tree in the footpath right outside my front door.

  6. Hi Sam, is your only objection that previous correspondents don't live in Burnett St? Do you have anything further to add to this discussion? Are you in favour of retaining the planter boxes or removing them? Do you support or oppose the proper marking of parking spaces? Over to you.

  8. Hi anonymous. I do not live in Burnett St but I worked in an office there for 12 years and I believe Megan has a business there. Are you in favour of retaining the planter boxes or removing them? Do you support or oppose the proper marking of parking spaces? Over to you.

  9. Damian is right, I do have a shop on Burnett St, I also own it, so I am more than entitled to have an opinion.
Actually, living in a democracy entitles me to an opinion, whether others like it or not!
